Planes and stuff

Well...Actually, this is back 10 years and 6 days....looks like I didn't go spotting on November, 14, 2012... But, did go for some shots on November, 20, 2012... Germania was one of the airlines I got that day...Ceased operations 5 feb. 2019, so well worth the memory... A319 D-ASTX, departing from Madeira to Arrecife... Sometimes is well worth a second look on back pics...hadn't processed nor published any shots of Germania A319 D-ASTR, and this one, back from April 2018 doesn't look bad at all... Departing from runway 23...

Tonight, Germania Airlines has seen its AOC canceled by LBA (German Civil Aviation Authorities), with all operations shut... (This does not affect the Swiss branch) Unfortunatelly it was not unexpected, due to all the financial struggle of the last weeks...with seven weekly flights to Madeira, it's quite a knock into Madeira's german tourism market... Also, this was the airline performing the Jersey flights (where there's a big Madeirean community ...) So, Photo of the Week is dedicated to Germania, with some previously unpublished pics of the last time I had the oportunity to spot their planes...6th January 2019 Wish all the best to all Germania personnel on their next step. According to some info, D-AGER , carrying the airline's 30th Aniversary special livery, is to be stored / scrapped in March, still, the year began with financial dificulties for Germania and for a moment it seemed like the plane would last the airline. Fortunately, it looks like they managed to secure the necessary financing to keep on, although some changes are to be made regarding the management and operacions...let's hope it works for a long time more. Germania is a regular presence at Madeira with a few weekly flights from various origins A shot that's an exemple on the fleet change as the B737 are leaving the fleet towards an Airbus fleet, which should receive some NEO's in a close future.

Another batch of pics from the day of the visit of the Portugal Spotters at Madeira: The arrival and departure of Travel Service B738 OK-TVS... landing on runway 05 tails on the apron, not as blue as it used to be on monday mornings--- Meanwhile, the runway changed and the take-off was from runway 23

It's allways nice to see a full (or almost) with some variety of planes and airlines... I guess mondays are still the days of the week with most traffic at Madeira and if the variety of types isn't that much (Airbus medium haul rulling..)  the mix of tails isn't that bad (as for the fuselages, white is winning for a long distance) The Lufthansa plane is not a regular on mondays..the 2 weekly flights are made on Saturdays but due to the Leslie storm, those flights were changed to monday.

Looks like Germania's B737 D-AGEU (and D-AGEQ) have been ferried to Erfurt-Weimar Airport (ERF-EGBP)  for part-out & scrap... Gave a review to my records and it seems like this was the only time I got D-AGEU (and no records on AGEQ)... D-AGEU on a windy short final to runway 05, back in 2005 Still, Airfleets site only give it as stored (D-AGEU) and beeing a plane with "only" 20 years, I wonder if it won't get a second life with some other airline....

Esta semana lá tive oportunidade de fazer umas fotos ao OE-IZQ, o Easyjet com a pintura especial Berlin. A acompanhar-me, a spotter júnior da família :) De máquina na mão, armada em fotógrafa de flores, lá fez também uns cliques aos aviões :) Logo vou metendo outras mas, gostei bastante desta...muito fixe! ;)

De regresso ao Porto Santo, ficam 3 registos de 2015, que ainda não tinha tratado, da chegada do B737 da Germania D-AGER, o mesmo que agora ostenta a pintura dos 30 Anos da companhia (ver AQUI ), ainda com o esquema de pintura anterior ao actualmente em uso :

Germania Switzerland made its premiere at Madeira last November (03.Nov.2016) but only a few days ago managed to make the first pics of it, arriving from Zurich. It's just about the curiosity of having a Germania with Swiss registration and flag... Landing on runway 05 with local Aeroclub Piper 180 CS-AIC holding short off runway entering the stand with a Swiss flag... an extra on the engines with CH web domain... Curiously, this was the plane that made the premiere on the return of Germania to Madeira with german registration D-AHIM. Check HERE

On a day with a couple of flights from Zurich, a few shots of the Edelweiss which holds one of my favorite liveries from those coming to Madeira... A320 HB-IJW landing on runway 05, from Zurich preparing the return flight taxi with another Swiss plane on the runway and for my surprise, quite an early take-off for this bird, heading to Zurich ...with Madeira green mountains in front and the blue sea on my back...

It's allways nice to get some special liveries... Still hadn't got any inflight shots of Germania's 30th Aniversary livery, G-AGER, so it was nice to manage to get some runway 23 take-off shots.... a bit of an early take-off, from runway 23, back to Germany The arrival, also from runway 23 The arrival of A321 Sharklets D-ASTE, also a rare catch, for me... From last year (Apr, 26th 2015), a pic I still hadn't published of Germania's B737 D-AGEU on short final to runway 05, on a windy day...

It's not every day (at least, not in Madeira) that you get 3 special liveries in about half an hour, 2 of wich are new to me (one for the first time at Madeira...) D-AGER with the Germania 30th aniversary livery #flygermania arriving at the stand. At Madeira for the first time..Nice livery! Tuifly's D-ATUZ, wearing a very nice RIU Hotels livery. Has been here before but this was the first time I got it... 2 new special liveries out of 3 planes...a nice line up at LPMA's apron... the 3rd special livery (or the first...as this was the first one I got this day, departing to Lisbon, were it's based) Easyjet's G-EZEZ with the Napoli sticker New glass protection in some of the public balcony...

Lately we are having a lot more Germania flights. Despite that, haven't photographed it much... A couple of shots of A319 D-ASTB. This one had the Gambia Bird livery but, unfortunatelly, never managed to get it in those colors... Taking off from runway 23
