Satas

Imagem

One of the great things about spotting at  Madeira is that you have lots and lots of places that provide many kinds of shots for a plane spotter (even if usually I use the same ones...) There was this spot I had been wanting to try for quite while...last weekend went for it.... It didn't turned out exactly as I wanted but, someday will give it another try, earlier in the night... Anyway, it managed to get to Jetphotos TopShots of the last 24H... Sata's A320 CS-TKJ landing at Madeira's runway 05

New Photo of the Week: Phenom 300

Imagem
The Embraer Phenom is quite a rare sight around here. It's a nice little bizjet and in this case, PP-ABV (a Phenom 300) holds a great livery. After the inside pic of last week, I guess that this one's a great example that outside pics can also turn out really nice and personally, my best/fav. pics are from the outside, no doubt.... With a TAP A320 landing on the back, in runway 05 Sata's A320, CS-TKJ was also with lights on while maintenance was working on it....

Quick stop on the afternoon

Imagem
This week while heading to Funchal, at the end of the afternoon, made a quick stop at the Airport just in time to get the arrival of Easyjet's A319 G-EZDU with a great light... final to runway 05 F-GYAQ, Air Méditerranée A321 getting ready to depart to Nantes and the usual A320 from Sata, based at Madeira, CS-TKJ

New Photo of the Week: Spotting at LPMA

Imagem
Last Thursday had to go to Machico. If things turned out ok, I could manage to get the right timming to catch the arrival of the schedulled Monarch. Unfortunatelly, didn't manage to do so... Still, made a quick stop on one of the best and usual spotting places just in time to get the arrival of D-AICG , from Condor (come on Condor, how about bringing the retro D-AICA to Madeira??) With a regular A320 from Condor , decided for a diferent view on its landing Indeed a fantastic spotting place (it just needed the matching traffic....) G-MONX , the Monarch A320 had already arrived. It was the first visit from Monarch since they stoped flying to Madeira, at the end of last Summer season. A charter flight, from Manchester, via London Gatwick that is schedulled to depart Sunday. Anyway an already well known registation at Madeira... On its regular parking, CS-TKJ , from Sata... It sure spends a lot of time stoped over there... Rumors on Sata International p...

Night-stoppers

Imagem
Yesterday night made a quick stop at the airport for some shots at the night-stop traffic. The airport was already a bit spooky with most of the lights out and almost no one at sight... The main reason for the stop, the Learjet 35A, from LAR - Luxembourg Air Rescue, LX-TWO  Took the oportunity also for a quick shot at a Piper PA-31P 350 Mojave that's been here at Madeira for some time (who knows how regular it will become...) N155RT  As I was there, might as well take some pics of the other traffic. Sata's A320 CS-TKJ. Despite Sata doesn't make the Madeira-Lisbon flights, there's allways one A320 based at Madeira, for other flights. Notice the engine blades? The other usual Sata, Q200 CS-TRB, used on Madeira-Porto Santo  flights with an unusual plane on the back: M-RKAY, a  Raytheon 390. CS-TKK the last TAP that had arrived (one again, notice the blades...) CS-TTD that

Got another email from Jetphotos with a photo that's currently in 2nd place, on the Top of last 24h... Not great quality...it's just that kind of pic that calls the atention of people that click on it to check it out.... Sata's A320 CS-TKJ entering final to runway 05 at FNC/LPMA (Madeira)

CS-TKJ: The landing of the Birdstrike

Imagem
Last Jun.,20th the Sata A320 CS-TKJ had a multiple birdstrike at LPMA  - Madeira during the rotation on the take-off to Copenhagen (CPH). Check the small info I published then HERE Until now, no pics of the landing were known. None of the usual Madeira Spotters were around at the time of landing and no other pics were published on the most known aviation photography sites. These pics would be specially interesting because there was a controversy on the fact that the birdstrike had made one of the cargo doors open in flight and the A320 made the landing with that door open. Speciallists stated that it wasn't possible or if it was open it would be just a little bit... Well, this weekend a foreign spotter sent me some hot shots on this. Sergey Bocharov was on the right spot at the right time! Thanks a lot for sharing these pics, Sergey. Just made a crop on the pics, resized (1200x800) and put a watermark on the pics.... By the way, if anyone out there has any mor...

CS-TKJ landing on 05

Imagem
Last Thursday, on the same afternoon the  Condors had a bit of a trouble with the winds , I photographed CS-TKJ , the Sata that had the birdstrike last month at LPMA  for the first time after that incident. It landed right after the last Condor  and despit some corrections it managed to make a nice landing (although a little bit later than usual) short final to runway 05 passing by the Fire Dept. HQ almost there....

Sata's Birdstrike

Imagem
This morning, Sata's CS-TKJ, making the S4 680 flight from Madeira to Copenhagen suffered several birdstrike impacts from a flock of birds during take off, affecting both engines (that kept working) and a cargo door, that opened in flight. CS-TKJ at Madeira with the remains of another birdstrike (with a lot less consequences) back in 2005 The plane managed to return safely to the airport. The passengers were put on a replacement A320 a few hours later. The plane is at Funchal for damage evaluation

Rotation spot....

Imagem
On the day we went for some spotting with the 2 Algarve spotters that were around, we went for a couple of less usual spots... The bad thing about this spot is that you can see the plane on the take-off run it just apears from behind the mountain and it depends a lot if it makes a late or an early take-off (in this case, the take-off was just about the right place....) Anyway, despite it can be a very nice place to get the columns that suport this part of the runway, I focused on the plane, with no overview... Just after CS-TKJ rotation.... Sata's A320 with Desertas islands in the back....

Air Méditerranée

Imagem
Air Méditerranée started flying to Madeira on this summer season and it's been coming to Madeira for a few weeks. Despite that still hadn't got any pic of it. Last Thursday decided to go for it: was coming on the afternoon right on time to get it after work and it was a B735, which is not that usual around here... But oposite to Funchal, the weather at the airport was quite dull and it looks like the pilots had only trained Madeira's  runway 05...despite the wind was indicating runway 23, they chose, both for landing and take-off runway 05.... After missing the landing (was waiting on 23, it landed on 05...) headed for the usual spots, together with a few more spotters, which would give a  nice location for runway 23 take-off...... Despit the winds indicating 23, it linned up on 05, passing by Bulgaria Air  LZ-FBC and  Falcon 2000 PH-VBG check the wind indicator....it was quite a long take-off run... F-HCOA and (taxiing) the other french traffi...

Water mirrors & a C-295 out of the mist

Imagem
Yesterday stopped at the airport during lunch time, expecting to see something interesting... Things were pretty quiet and the weather was quite awfull with heavy rain. Despite that, during a break on the rain, noticed that the water on the apron was mirroring the colors of the parked aircraft.... CS-TKJ 's new colors were reflecting a lot despite beeing the farther one  CS-TMW PGA 's F100 are still regular around here... ( CS-TPC ) Anyway, nothing was going on and I had to leave... Not far from the airport, met a military convoy heading for the airport....so decided to go back with the hope of getting 16803, the Portuguese Air Force C-130 with the new grey livery... Weather was getting worst from the side of runway 23, specially on the visibility... Despite that was the runway in use, the PoAF crew decided to land on 05 which was still with clear visibility. Started searching for the approaching plane to check if it was the 16803 but all I could see on the...
