Play shut down

Iceland’s PLAY Airlines has ceased operations as of today, canceling all flights.

It was due to make another flight from Reykjavik to Madeira tomorrow but that won't be happening...
I guess passengers from last week flights will have to find another way to return home...

Play made its premiere at Madeira last year, for the winter season (check HERE) and after a stop during summer it had just restarted its flights to our island...

Despite beeing a colorful airline which I would like to have photographed more, it came on a schedulle that wasn't too friendly with my own schedulles...

Flying over Porto Santo

These were on the "bucket" since last November.... They were taken on the day of the activation of AM3 during a couple of passes over Porto Santo, for some aerial shots of military LPPS (AM3) and...of course, the rest of the island. Indeed a fantastic oportunity given by the Air Force to be present at such an event and my baptism on the new C-295, after beeing already "baptized" on the C-130 and the C-212 (next stop...the EH-101..LOL) The island is rather small and this is pretty much everything in one shot.... Approaching the beach (with around 9Km of fantastic golden sand...) The bubbled window provided some great views and quite a diferent framing...looks like you're outside the plane... Air Dolomiti

 Air Dolomiti Embraer 190LR I-ADJP arriving at Venice. Air Dolomiti has one of those really simple but nice liveries (personal opinion...) that fits really well on the Embraer. Curiously, the first time I made some photos on one of its planes, was also in Venice, back in 2005: I-ADLN, an ATR-72 that is now scrapped, after beeing transfered to Asian Wings Airways, in 2011...time really goes by...

Week Photo: 20 Years of PGA

 20 Years ago (Sep.12th 2005), PGA - Portugália made its first flight to Madeira. Quite a sight...Fokker 100 were rare around here (and beside PGA, continued to be...) and back then, the Airport and Madeira still welcomed new airlines/routes with a salute bath from the fire department...quite a sight and definitely a lot more eye catching than whatever they do now.... CS-TPE had the honour of beeing the first... Aviation has definitely changed (don't know if it has really evolved) and I hope my photographs have evolved in quality but still, moments like these are one of the reasons that made me want to photograph, instead of just watch planes... Now PGA has been rebranded as TAP Express, operating the Embraer 190/5...still, it is just me or the Fokker 100 were quite more confortable? More PGA photos, HERE More CS-TPE photos, HERE
