CS-TGV parado...

Imagem

New Photo of the Week - Thomas Cook Kabouter Plop

Imagem
It's been quite a while since I last caught a special livery. This morning noticed that the Thomas Cook Belgium, from Brussels was the A320 OO-TCP "Kabouter Plop" so, after loosing a few special liveries from this company, decided that this one I'd get. (had already photographed it once but with the stairs....check HERE ) Departing to Brussels from runway 23 with a bit of an interesting sky on the back, getting dark... Despite I usually don't like that much of planes just against the sky, I think that in this one, the light on the plane and the type of clouds in the back make an interesting shot... Rotation on runway 23 Typical Madeira, with the mountains climbing into the sky, from the airport...

Top @ Jetphotos: LPA Balcony

Imagem
This one managed to get at #1 on the Jetphotos.net Top Shots... The view on the Las Palmas, Gran Canaria (LPA / GCLP) airport. Visible on the apron, an ATR from Islas, another from Binter and a B737 from Ryanair, as well as my "ride", Sata's Q400 CS-TRD

Regresso dos Cruzeiros

Imagem

The last Portuguese 757

Imagem
Looks like CS-TLX, the last portuguese B757, departed last Friday with the United States as final destination for a conversion into a Fedex freighter... Operated by Euroatlantic , I photographed it once, back in 2006... It was the first Portuguese B757 at Madeira...

The return of Smartlynx

Imagem
Yesterday we had the return of Smartlynx, on the flights from Tallinn. It arrived from that city during the night (around 4.55am) and stayed for a few hours for crew rest. The other few times (or just once, maybe) they brought an airplane with full Smartlynx livery I couldn't go to the airport for some shots so, yesterday, after work made a quick run into the airport to take some shots of its departure, around 4.35pm. It was departing on a positioned (empty) flight to Ponta Delgada, Azores (PDL), so there was a good probability of making a good and early take-off.... Ponta de S.Lourenço on the background... YL-BBC pushing back to runway 05 with a nice Lynx on the nose.. This must have been one of a kind for me! No need to crop nor rotate for horizon leveling...right out of the camera with redimension, a bit of levels and sharp...

A couple of Porto Santo Shots on Airliners

Imagem
Haven't been with much of a mood of publishing any entries (nor uploading to usual sites...)so, a couple of shots accepted on Airliners.net is a "soft" entry to share... Both of the shots were taken at Porto Santo and both have a special importance... Transavia made, this year, its debut at Porto Santo ( LPPS / PXO ), on a weekly flight from Paris. So, it's the first time I got this airline at this island, and that early morning light really gives a special touch... F-GZHV landing on runway 36 The other one is my first night shot of a PGA ERJ-145 and also the first time I got one of these at the Madeira Archipelago, as they don't use the 145 to Madeira .... CS-TPJ arrived from Lisbon (LPPT / LIS) and was ready to return to the mainland, to Porto (LPPR / OPO)

NATO Tiger Meet 2012 to Norway

Imagem
Just got the info by phone... Went to the Nato Tiger Association site  and it's definitely true...NATO Tiger Meet 2012 will no longer be held at Portugal (was suposed to take place at Monte Real Air Base, home of 301 Sqn "Jaguares".... Crap!!! NTM 2012 relocation NATO Tiger Meet NTM 2012, unlike previously reported is NOT taking place in Portugal, but in Norway. Due to increasing financial problems for Portugal, and the economic measures announced by the IMF last July. Budget for opperational training for the Portugees Air Force has suffered a drastic cutback, resulting in the cansellation of NTM 2012. luckely only days after the announcement by 301 Sqn, the CO of 338 squadron RNoAF has already convinced Norwegian Generals, and has taken over the task of hosting NTM2012 Info:  http://www.natotigers.org/index.php

New Photo of the Week: The end of an Era...

Imagem
19401 This weekend would usually be the one when Portugal Air Show would take place... After the last edition had many problems, this year it didn't took place at all... Also, the choice of this pic wasn't "innocent"...in 2005 I had the oportunity to photograph, for the first time, the Portuguese Air Force display team "Rotores de Portugal", on that year's PAS edition... This year, there isn't any Rotores also... It's a post in a bit of a dark mood with all those endings but recent events show that things are far from having reached the bottom, specially in Madeira, were recent news show that the situation is even worst than the worst expectations...

Published: Airliner World October

Imagem
The Airliner World magazine maintains its new subscriptions campain on the October issue, offering a Madeira Airport DVD. The chosen pic for the campain advertisement is again one of mines: LX-LGS , landing on runway 23

The Canary flights...3 in a row

Imagem
Yesterday was the first day, in a long time, that I went to the airport for a quick spotting. The reason: It's not every day you get to see an ATR-42 at Madeira, even if it's a white one like the Canaryfly... When I saw it during my vacations on it's home airport, LPA (on a far distance), wasn't expecting to see it so soon around here.... Schedulled for the previous day, and then earlier in the morning of yesterday, it ended up arriving at Madeira only around lunch time with a strong sun and hard light... EC-LMX, Canaryfly ATR-42 arriving from Málaga. The most interesting and colorful part of the plane.... Right after the landing of that ATR, another came in for the landing, this time Binter's ATR-72, from Las Palmas (LPA / GCLP). The first time I photograph it at Madeira, during this summer season.... EC-KSG "Malvasía Volcánica" Right after, the other "Canary" flight: Travel Service ....a Czech airline, arriving from Warsa

Vacations? Check Porto Santo, the Golden Island

Imagem
Lately I've been posting some entries on Porto Santo. If you're planning your next vacations you definitely must check this destination, specially if your looking for a relaxing vacations  (but, plenty of things to do if you need some vacations with a few more "exercise"....)

ND's no Porto Santo

Imagem

New Photo of the Week - On final to 05...

Imagem
Premiering on the Q400 (CS-TRD), decided to try some shots only possible on high wing planes. Last Week's Photo of the Week was one of my tries to get the higher angle with the engine (ckeck HERE . ) For the return flight, decided for the lower angle, with the landing gear... Got some nice shots on the circuit (a direct entry to GELO), here just a little bit after ROSARIO, on final to runway 05 Unfortunatelly, the touchdown shots didn't turn out as good as I expected...

Medevac's

Imagem
As I already mentioned some times, the smaller neighbour island of Porto Santo of less than 5000 inhabitants, doesn't have an Hospital but a Health Center with ER that is enough for most of the small things that happen daily but if something more serious comes up, Medical Evacuations have to be made to Madeira. With the summer, when island populations rises in great amount, the need for Medevacs also rise... Yesterday, in 16 hours, 4 Medevacs had to be made to Madeira. This isn't usuall, I guess it was one of those days.... 3 of the Medevacs were made by the Portuguese Air Force EH-101 (16912) detached at AM3 (military instalations on Porto Santo Airport) and another (during the night) by the C-295 also based there.. I didn't manage to get the EH on any of the 2 daylight Evacuations but, after dinner, Paulo called me saying the EH had once more just taken off to Madeira with another Medevac... Taking some night shots on the Merlin is definitely on my spotting whishlis

Thomson at Porto Santo

Imagem
This year Porto Santo had one of the most  (if not the most) interesting summers of all times, regarding air traffic. Travel groups discovered that nice and relaxing island and many (considering the usual traffic) charters were schedulled for the summer. Unfortunatelly, regarding the spotting, that brought me very little new stuff as almost all the flights were made by airlines that also come to Madeira: Thomson Airways , Transavia France, Jetairfly and Travel Service (this last one usually with a registration that doesn't come to Madeira) and the nationals Sata and TAP (also PGA, that allowed me to get a night shot of the ERJ-145.. ..) and White. Even though had already pics of those airlines, didn't have any pic of the foreign ones at Porto Santo so, tryed to get one flight of each... One of the firsts was Thomson Airways with a B757 from London - Gatwick (LGW / EGKK) G-OOBA landing on runway 36 Vila Baleira on the back Those winglets look rather nice on this

C-235 Salvamento Maritimo

Imagem

Ryanair: Medical Emergency

Imagem
Back to the Porto Santo traffic... During these vacations on that island, the most surprising traffic I had the oportunity to spot was EI-EMF, a B737 from Ryanair that diverted to that island with a Medical Emergency on board. Specially curious was the fact that the week before, another Ryanair made the airline first landing on that island, also with a Medical Emercency... (fortunatelly, this time things were less serious than the first time, when the passenger died....as far as I know was already dead on arrival) Had made an early wake for some ND photos but the rainy weather made me go back to bed. A phone call woke me but wasn't much in the mood the talk to anyone...turned it off... A second call right after made me rise of the bed....it was probably something interesting...... It was.... :)) Well...still managed to get to the airport while the ambulance was still waiting for the person to evacuate to local health services A big thanks to Pedro and Paulo.

Azul....

Imagem

New Photo of the Week: Estreando o Q400....

Imagem

Still on vacations....
