Austrian A321 new livery

Austrian A321 OE-LBD arriving at Madeira, from Vienna
First time I got Austrian's more recent livery...doesn't really catch my eye but, the record is done...

Sunday lunch time...a crappy time for spotting either due to the family time either due to the light...but happenned to be passing by so, worth waiting 5 minutes for the catch...

Austrian retro

For the second time, Austrian brought us its retro special livery OE-LBO, on the weekly flight from Vienna.
Lunch time on Sunday's are not definitly the best spotting time but as I had failed the first visit, went for this one...
Made some shots on the landing but they got all heat blur...so, sharing a couple of shots entering the stand...

Still....OE-LBP had a more interesting retro livery... (Check HERE)

Austrian

Not my favorite kind of shots but it's been quite a while since I last photographed an Austrian airplane so, decided to wait for its arrival, from Vienna:

Austrian retro

Finally we got at Madeira, after some years of wait, Autrian's plane with the retro livery: OE-LBP

Not the best time of the day nor the best weather but, it's checked.
Now lets hope I'll managed to get it a few times more some some better pics...

landing on runway 05, arriving from Vienna

Right before the the Austrian, there was another first for me...
Small Planet
It's been coming for a couple of weeks but, it was my first pics of it....

SP-HAD
And right after, another moment you don't get everyday...
A US Cessna 750 Citation X (unsual around here), from Avangard Aviation was quite in a hurry to depart...
The passenger bus wasn't still there and it was already receiving the taxi clearance...

After a quite fast taxi (for a stop at holding point...as Austrian was landing), it entered runway 05 and got its nose into departure direction for take off...
Unfortunatelly, for the pilots, the ATC didn't authorized that and made him backtrack to line up on runway 05's treshold...
He should have been quite pissed, by the way he made the turn and fast backtrack to line up as ordered...

Published: Airports of the World

Got another photo published in one the magazines edited by Key Publishing: Aiports of the World (Jan/Feb 2012)

It's my most viewed pic in Airliners.net, despite the backlight, it's not everyday you get to see a Boeing 777 landing at Madeira...

OE-LPA, the T7 from Austrian made some flights back in 2006
Fantastic sight indeed...

Split second on the Austrian...

Last Wednesday went to the airport with the target on the first A318, schedulled to arrive around 5pm.

The Austrian was schedulled to half-an-hour earlier than that, so, despite it still wasn't the retro A320 (come on Austrian....!!!!) it was allways a nice catch as this airline livery is one of my favs.

The approach was a bit windy and the touch down was made with one wheel at each time with the extra of getting that split second where the strobe is on as the first wheel smokes down on the ground....

Second touch from the right gear a couple of shots later

The OE-LNS 737 looks rather nice but how about bringing the retro A320 to Madeira???

Just for a couple of planes....

Last week, met another spotter from Porto Santo.
He usually upload his pics, together with PB at the Movimentos Porto Santo Blog

When we got to the airport for his flight, took the oportunity for some shots on a couple of planes: an arriving TAP and the departing Austrian.

The wind was blowing quite hard and the TAP crew didn't have an easy task to get the A320 into a safe landing...

CS-TNR with the front wheel almost there....

Time for the Austrian A320 to taxi to 05.

OE-LBV...it's been a long time I haven't photographed an Austrian.
Love these colors but, I've been on the hunt for the A320 with the retro livery but until now, still no luck...
They've been bringing the A320 but still no retro...come one Austrian...

C-212 x C-295

The same day I went for the Austrian Star Alliance, I also had the luck to get a couple of planes from Portuguese Air Force with a special meaning.

Wednesdays are usually C-295 day at Madeira.
This day I had the extra of getting at Madeira, not only the C-295 but also, at the same time, the AM3 C-212 that was making a Medevac from Porto Santo.
The special meaning of this: The C-212 won't be lasting too long on duty with the Portuguese Air Force, as it will be replaced by the C-295 anytime soon...

After delivering the evacuated person to the ambulance, taxiing back to runway 05...

Early take off...

Austrian Star Alliance

Finally managed to get this one!
Has been coming to Madeira for a while but today was the first one I managed to be at the airport for it.

Traffic at Madeira on Wednesdays is usually quite boring and for the last weeks the Austrian was the only interesting traffic of the day (for me..)
Today, Hamburg International and Primera came back to Madeira but they managed to organize flighs so we have the Hamburg in the begining of the morning, the Primera at lunch and Austrian at the middle of the afternoon...three trips to the airport? No way...
(By the way, today's registrations for those planes were D-AHIM and OY-PSA)

Anyway, the Austrian...
I find the Star Alliance (and Austrian) to fit very nicely to the B738...

Memories: Austrian's 777 at Madeira

A few days ago was browsing some older pics and took some time seeing the ones from the first flight to Madeira of Austrian's Boeing 777...what a day...

Chose this one for the memory....
(by the way, will try to make one memory post for week, although my photos aren't that old, much has changed and you can always find something that brings some nice memories....)

C-295 - Yaris Air Lifter....

A couple of days ago (Jun.16th) went to the airport for the afternoon traffic.
Was expecting to get some military traffic, in preparation for PoAF Celebrations 2010, that will be held at Madeira.
Not long after I arrived, "Snout 47" (Sqn.502, Elefantes - Elephants) entered the frequency and was cleared to runway 05.

Some nice winglex was noticeable....

The final was windy,,,,

They parked far away, on the apron but with an eye on my laptop and another on what they were doing, I noticed that they were unloading 1 Toyota Yaris...and then....another...after which still managed to get another more out....3 of them....Definitely didn't knew the 295 could carry all that....

For the take off decided to go to another location, behind the net, for the taxi and were I could get some nice perspective of the take-off...if they took-off on the "right" place...

Well....like everything else in life, spotting is made of choices...and this was a bad one...They took more than expected and the Austrian (OE-LNS) came in for the landing before their take-off...and me on the wrong place...
And then...they took off very, very, very early....Didn't see their exact take-off point but I guess they took around 300m...and passed by me quite high....
If I had stayed on my original location would have catched Austrian's landing and the 295 take-off from a great angle....oh well...

Heading to Porto Santo, 2000ft....

New Photo of the Week - C-135FR - the Top of a Great Week

Despite all the mess created by the vulcano ashes of the Icelandic vulcano (I could copy/paste the name of it but it's definitely unpronounceable...) this was a great week regarding air traffic at Madeira, with lots of interesting and diferent stuff.
The Cherry on Top of the Cake was the French Stratotanker that visited us last Friday, staying on night-stop, specially for a military aviation fan like myself (although I'm definitely surrended to airliners...)

But there was many other stuff, like Sata's A310 with the new livery (CS-TKN), that visited us twice, the PoAF C-295 and the C-130 which made quite a low pass to compliment the French that had just arrived, the hybrid XL/Miami Air, the Smartwings, the OE-LNP in Austrian livery, the HLX Haribo and many other more regular but still interesting traffic...
Spend a lot of fuel this week on trips to the airport, on everyday of the every but it's defnitely Great to have this kind traffic.
Anyway, now it's time to start processing and sharing here all that stuf...I'll try to do it during next week....

B738 by Austrian and other news

Last Monday, I managed to get OE-LNS, the first B737-800 in full Austrian livery!
It was the first time it came to Madeira with this livery, which, by the way looks really nice and way better than the old Lauda livery.

Had to run like hell to get it and arrived at the terminal's balcony just as it was entering the stand...

The shadowed "www" in the backgound of the "Austrian.com" gives a nice touch to the engine...

Was already outside the terminal when I noticed that the Cimber Sterling was also arriving, which is allways a nice catch, so went back to the balcony.
This livery is really nice and nostalgic....

...and a bit of a wider open shot so you can see the other new stuff of the day...

Did you see it? No clue of what I'm talking about?
Well, it's the new "Follow Me" car....hehe! It's the first time I see it....
Looks real nice!
