Memories: Antonovs versus Ships

Imagem
This week got myself thinking that the time of the year when a plane spotter most enjoys ships is when they have a mechanical problem and a plane has to bring the replacement part... Unfortunately the "Cape Mor" that was at Funchal bay with an engine problem headed to Las Palmas, to repair and with it, the Antonov An-124 with the replacement part... Anyway, back in 2005 we had another Antonov visiting us due to an engine problem in a ship: In that case, the ship was the ferry that connects Madeira and Porto Santo: "Lobo Marinho" and the Antonov was a "little" smaller than the 124...it was an An-26...in alse cases, a diferent visitor well worth catching... Cityline Hungary An-26 landing at Madeira, carrier style HA-TCN with the replacement part to Lobo Marinho Getting ready for the return, the next day...

2500 Vidas...

Imagem

New Photo of the Week - D-CCCB

Imagem
This week haven't been with much of a mood for posting... Anyway decided to post this week's photo, despite it's almost in the end of the week.... (better later than never... ;P ) Was a bit tired of Airbus and Boeing so browsed a litle bit for something diferent and decided to post this one, a very nice little plane in on an unusual angle... D-CCCB at Madeira, in 2004 on the service with DJ Erick Morillo Last year also got this same plane, now on duty with DRF and with a really great livery! Another pic of this day was already Pic of the WeeK. Check it HERE

Nordic highlights on lunch time

Imagem
Monday's are busiest days at Madeira but most of the planes are well known, so decided to go just for while, at lunch time just to get the nordic highlights of the day: Air Finland's OH-AFJ with its great (and still rare around here) livery. (second time at Madeira with new colors)   And, the other highlight would be Cimber... I didn't even knew what was the registration but, didn't matter, either Sterling or Cimber are great looking. Got lucky with today's Cimber, OY-MRU, the first Cimber livery for me this year and looks like it's also the first time I get this registration...

Welcome Air

Imagem
Tonight we had a rare visitor which stayed for the night. These Do.328 from Welcome Air had been here for a few times but I still hadn't managed to get any. It's a very nice plane (a diferent one...) with a colorful livery, which beats any white fridge looking plane... OE-BGG

1 Ano...

Nosy Belair

On the day of the return of Air Berlin's A330, that company also brought another plane with a special touch of interest: The A320 (HB-IOU) from Zurich, operated by Belair..

A Swiss Israeli

Imagem
This morning went to the airport for the return of Air Berlin's A330. The A330 pics got absolutely crappy but managed to get this rare bird. After all it's not every day that you get Israeli manufactured planes around here.... HB-IUT (Israel IAI-1126 Galaxy) holding short off runway 05 A. e R. é uma foto à RS? Bem que vos dizia que faria melhor em c@#ª» para o 330 e concentrar-me no outro... Taking off from runway 05....not a very short run...

New Photo of the Week - Sterling over Treshold

Imagem
Despite the fantastic Air Finland livery  I decided to choose this pic, also from that day for this Week's Photo: OY-MRF, from Cimber Sterling on short final to runway 23 I'm also very fond on this livery and despite the light conditions weren't the best, still got lucky enough to get some really great reflection on the fuselage and engines: runway 23's treshold.

Air Finland new colors

Imagem
Last monday, like I already mentioned we had a couple of returns. The most expected was this Air Finland , for the first time with new colors at Madeira. (Really nice livery!) Landed at runway 23, from Helsinki: OH-AFJ Unfortunatelly, couldn't wait for the departure... Maybe next time...

Primera (and a bit of KLM) take-off

Imagem
Last Monday morning, there were a few motivs for an airport visit: Jet2 was returning (from Manchester) and starting a new route, from Leeds, with the 2 planes arriving in the same half-an-hour) and the best: Air Finland was returning and this time with new colors. Nevertheless, one of the most interesting moments in the morning was provided by Primera . The plane was first noted for having a KLM winglet. And then, on take off, from runway 23, was really noticed for making one of the most amazing take-offs I've seen around here... Unfortunatelly both I and the other spotter that was with me weren't paying attention and when I managed to point my camera and take some pics it was already gaining some altitude... OY-PSF taking off from runway 23 Getting the left wing down right after rotation and keeping it that way for a while in the same height at first glimps gave me the impression that it was entering into a stall but then it started climbing... Reminded me the

Aerobatica's Pitts

Imagem
When posting the Pic of the Week , with the Chipmunk, noticed on my disk some other beauties that made a presence in Portugal Air Show 2005. Today decided to share a couple of pics from Aerobatica's Pitts, after all it's not something you get to see around here... CS-DAY and CS-AZX

Navy Lynx at Funchal

Imagem
Noticed at FB that Commander H.C.'s birthday is today so, decided to share some pics of the Portuguese Navy Lynx demo during the Navy celebrations, that took place at Funchal, in 2008. A big thanks to H.C. for the way he received us! 19204 demo in front of Independence of the Seas cruise ship 19203 diving nose down almost over me.... Landing in NRP Álvares Cabral

Air Baltic

Imagem
There are some airlines that really don't have anything with a special meaning to you...not even the livery but you allways like to photograph it once, just for the record... Air Baltic is one of those...still, that green tail looks rather nice... Air Baltic's YL-BBK

Eyes on: Aviation on Manaus

Imagem
Planes and Stuff just got a Brazilian partner:  Aviation in Manaus It still has a short life but it sure deserves a visit. (Banner link also available on the right banner column) The best of luck for this project!

Washed Easy

Imagem
On the same day of the Gold Haribo , also got a bunch of Easyjets but the one that turned out best was G-EZFG. Departing after a strong rain, the air (and the plane...) were completely washed and take-off from runway 23 provided me some of the pics I really enjoy to take...

New Photo of the Week - Chipmunk (60 Years...)

Imagem
On January, 29th took place in Air Base number 1 (BA1 - Sintra) the Celebrations of the Chipmunks 60 Years of Service with the Portuguese Air Force. Aerofenix CS-AZX at Portugal Air Show 2005 Portuguese Air Force ex-1334 Check plane's history HERE The Portuguese Air Force had a total of 76 of these planes on duty: The first 10 came from De Havilland, in England and the other 66 were built under licence at OGMA, in Portugal. In March 1989, 5 Chips (1306, 1315, 1316, 1335 and 1339) are delivered to the Air Force Academy for towing gliders. These planes got new engines which altered a little bit their front look. In 1993 one of the original Chips was delivered to the Madeira Aeroclub... After some time it got completely revised and got a new and fantastic paintjob... On one of my birthdays, a friend from Porto was around and arranged a flight for us on that day... As it was my birthday, I would be the first one to fly.... Unfortunatelly, as the pic shows, I was alread

The first Canadair

Imagem
The Canadair allways felt like a special plane for several reasons...its design, the fact of beeing an amphibian, its  mission and finally the fact that I had never seen any here before.... The first time I had the oportunity to photograph one of these was last year, an old CL-215 at Museu del Air, in Madrid. It was really nice but it was missing the vibrance and power of a living plane... Lets of hope that changes next week when, hopefully, there will be an oportunity to shoot a "living one" around here... wheter its a CL-215 or a 415...

Google

Imagem

New Photo of the Week - A new Tuifly Special

Imagem
Today we had a couple of Tuifly special liveries... The first one was the great new livery "DB Air One"! Together with D-ATUC this was one of the most expected planes, these days... Too bad the wheather wasn't as happy for the livery as we were... It arrived early in the morning...quite a dark morning.... D-ATUE, on the premiere at Madeira with this special livery Pushing back to runway 05 and taxi.... ....for a runway 05 departure to Frankfurt You can check some more pics of this traffic, from other Spotters: Alex Maio Márcio Paulo Olim
