Planes and stuff

Hoje os spotters nacionais andaram em polvorosa, com as primeiras fotos ao futuro A339 CS-TUT, ainda em construção mas cuja cauda, ainda apenas parcialmente pintada, já deixa antever uma nova pintura retro, com as cores utilizadas nos anos 80, 90 e inícios de 2000... Uma boa altura para recordar esta pintura, com um registo do A319 CS-TTA, obtida aqui na Madeira, em Agosto de 2005. Este aparelho foi armazenado em Dezembro de 2019 e sucateado em Março de 2020, facto que torna a foto ainda mais significativa...

Due do several personal reasons, (online) activity and spotting in general have been quite low lately. Have quite a few photos taken at Madeira that are still to be processed and published but they feel of more of the same... so, all together, not much will to publish around here... It's a hobby...doing it for the pleasure or not doing it at all... Anyway, today was browsing on some older photos and decided to go on this 2008 Spanair MD-83...EC-GAT, lining up on Arrecife....that's almost 20 years ago....must be getting old... Taken with the Canon 300D, which was my first DSLR...didn't knew much on photography back then (still don't...) but, have quite a few other photos that turned out pretty much worse...

These last days, this kind of refueler (on wich the versions may differ), has been on the highlight, with the accident with 2 US KC-135, one of which crashed and another recent news that some others may have been damaged  by a Iran atack on a Saudi Air base... Definitely diferent birds and ones quite unusual here... The only time I had the oportunity for some photos of this type was back in 2010, during a technical stop of French Air Force C-135 474, for a night-stop.

Today german carrier Lufthansa celebrates its 100th Aniversary! Congratulations! Despite having a few Lufthansa Group airlines flying to Madeira, currently the main one does not. Still, a photo, a photo of retro livery A321 D-AIDV receiving the water salute at Madeira, on the day of its return to our skyes, back in 2016... More on that day, HERE

 Only today realised that I still hadn't published any Santa Barbara Airlines premiere at Madeira. Back then newcomers were still welcomed with a water salute from the fire dept. Later they brough a new red livery which was very nice but, looking back, this one has that retro touch, specially looking all these years after.... More pics on the water salute, later... This week Condor said good-bye to its Boeing 757 with a special farewell flight carried by D-ABOM between FRA-VIE-FRA. Condor's B753 were quite an interesting sight around Madeira, for many years...so this deserves a special post with some photos taken over the years... D-ABOB D-ABOM, more HERE D-ABOE, the only 757 cockpit I ever went. 20 years ago, hope everything is running smooth with Capt. Eric Altendorf. Still one of the best welcomes I had. D-ABOI, more HERE D-ABOJ, more HERE Willi, D-ABON, more HERE D-ABOC, more HERE D-ABOA These were really special planes and definitely will be missed around here.

Still haven't been to the airport this month for some spotting so, tought that a memory from exactly 10 years ago, would be nice for this week's photo (which is already quite late...) Back in Oct, 23rd 2015, Monarch was still flying... A321 G-OZBZ arriving to runway 23, after some rain.. More of this day, HERE With its first flight in 2001, this airplane had some life but, unfortunatelly, has been scrapped in August 2024

 Hoje a foto da semana vai para uma memória com 15 anos (29.Set.2010) O C-212 ainda assegurava os destacamentos no AM3, com a Esquadra 502, apesar do C-295 já estar ao serviço da FAP. Este foi um daqueles dias em que tivemos em simultâneo o C-212 e o C-295 no aeorporto da Madeira, com o 295 a efetuar um voo a partir do continente e o C-212 16505 a efetuar uma das muitas Evacuações Médicas que efetuaram ao longo dos muitos anos de serviço no Arquipelago da Madeira. A foto da semana vai dedicada a todo o pessoal da Esquadra 502 (e também da 411) que, ao longo de muitos anos, têm assegurado em permanência a missão da Força Aérea e a salvaguarda da vida humana, neste cantinho de Portugal.  20 Years ago (Sep.12th 2005), PGA - Portugália made its first flight to Madeira. Quite a sight...Fokker 100 were rare around here (and beside PGA, continued to be...) and back then, the Airport and Madeira still welcomed new airlines/routes with a salute bath from the fire department...quite a sight and definitely a lot more eye catching than whatever they do now.... CS-TPE had the honour of beeing the first... Aviation has definitely changed (don't know if it has really evolved) and I hope my photographs have evolved in quality but still, moments like these are one of the reasons that made me want to photograph, instead of just watch planes... Now PGA has been rebranded as TAP Express, operating the Embraer 190/5...still, it is just me or the Fokker 100 were quite more confortable? More PGA photos, HERE More CS-TPE photos, HERE

 Air Dolomiti Embraer 190LR I-ADJP arriving at Venice. Air Dolomiti has one of those really simple but nice liveries (personal opinion...) that fits really well on the Embraer. Curiously, the first time I made some photos on one of its planes, was also in Venice, back in 2005: I-ADLN, an ATR-72 that is now scrapped, after beeing transfered to Asian Wings Airways, in 2011...time really goes by...

Parece que este fim de semana será a despedida do C-101 com a Patrulla Águila, durante o Festival Aire 25, em San Javier, Murcia, Espanha. Passarão depois a utilizar o Pilatus PC-21. A única vez em que tive oportunidade de ver e fotografar esta patrulha acrobática foi já em 2009, no decorrer no Portugal Air Show desse ano, em Évora. Grandes tempos... Curiosamente, algumas das fotos que fiz então, figuram no livro Volez, JETS en Patrulles / Flyning, Jet Teams, um livro fotográfico sobre diversas patrulhas acrobáticas que ganha agora um gostinho ainda mais especial e histórico. Parece que finalmente seguiu para a Ucrânia o último dos Kamov 32 oferecidos por Portugal àquele país. Estes aparelhos tinham sido utilizados no combate a incêndios mas, em 2022, altura em que foi anunciada a cedência,  já se encontravam parados há algum tempo, por falta de peças e outras dificuldades de operação. Mais info sobre isto, AQUI Por este motivo e pela raridade (especialmente para mim), merece bem uma foto da semana...um regresso a 2013, à única ocasião em que tive oportunidade de fotografar um aparelho destes, na Base SRPC de Loulé, o CS-HMM...  Estava a mexer numas fotos mais antigas e achei que valia a pena partilhar esta....que mais icónico do que ter um raro (na Madeira) Alouette III, operando, com o Cabo Girão, como pano de fundo... 19340, da Esquadra 551 - Zangões, aterrando em Câmara de Lobos, durante a semana das Comemorações da Força Aérea Portuguesa, em 2010:

Neste dia Dia de Portugal, de Camões e das Comunidades Portuguesas, a foto da semana vai dedicada ao Pessoal da 504 e ao Falcon 50...afinal de contas, além de todas as outras tarefas de salvaguarda da vida humana, também fazem evacucações médicas inter-ilhas por cá...razões operacionais certamente... Ver notícia AQUI 17402 na Madeira, em em 2017, com o CS-TTJ, um A319 da TAP que foi já sucateado, em Fevereiro de 2022. Curiosamente, o CS-TTJ "Eusébio" foi igualmente o aparelho que ostentou a pintura especial do Euro 2004.

 Back to June 2014....10 years ago... Aerovip was still on the Madeira-Porto Santo route, with the Do.228...A nice plane with some memories way back at Lar, at the same route... CS-AYT, departing from Madeira, to Porto Santo...

Back 10 years, to 07th November 2013...Photographed a few things that are already gone now but, for today, choose this close-up on West Air Europe BAe ATP LX-WAE, departing from runway 23 to Lisbon, on the daily cargo flight...

Was checking some older pics and found this one that I still hadn't publish... Belair A320 HB-IOS (Air Berlin titles), departing from runway 05, back in November 2015... On that day, we also got Air Berlin / Etihad special livery....check HERE

No dia que se assinala o dia da Marinha de Guerra Portuguesa, desta feita com as comemorações a se centrarem no Porto, fica um registo de 2008, ano em que as celebrações tiveram lugar no Funchal, assinalando igualmente os 500 anos desta cidade. Lynx 19204, no decorrer de uma das suas demos, com uma frente mar bastante diferente da atual...
