Planes and stuff

 A couple of shots of one of the 2 weekly Iberia charter flights (both on the same day...) arriving at Porto Santo island.. A320NEO EC-NCM Opening the reverses, with Vila Baleira on the back and Lobo Marinho, the inter-island ferry, on the port...

No passado dia 16 de Novembro, foi realizado na baía do Funchal um exercício de emergência, com um cenário de incêndio num navio. Foi um simulacro em larga escala e que envolveu diversos meios de emergência na Região mas, naturalmente a minha atenção foi direccionada para a intervenção do EH-101 da Força Aérea baseado no Porto Santo, até porque não tive oportunidade de ficar para assistir à totalidade do exercício... EH-101 19609, baseado no AM3 - Porto Santo Estava difícil do sol dar um ar da sua graça mas, lá brilhou um nadinha antes de eu ter de ir embora... RS em acção.... O navio utilizado no simulacro, o ferry inter-ilhas Lobo Marinho....

Golden Hour at golden island (Porto Santo) is quite nice...despite that, at the airport, the sun disapears a bit high behing the hills, it still gives a nice colors for the late afternoon landings.... Easyjet's A319 G-EZFV was one of the planes diverted from Madeira on this day, due to the winds and landed at Porto Santo with the very last sunlight on the runway... touchdown on runway 36 far on the back, the "downtown" and the ferryboat "Lobo Marinho" that makes the connection to Madeira Ended up staying for the night at Porto Santo. Many faces on the windows, curious about this alternate destination. Despite the change of plans, it should have been a very nice approach, over the 9km golden sand beach, into Porto Santo...

A Esquadra 751 assinalou ontem o seu 36º Aniversário. Pela missão, pelo espírito e pela Presença nos céus da Madeira, está é umas das Esquadra que me merece maior admiração e respeito... O dia de hoje mostrou, apesar de meteorologia pouco "apetitosa", uma pontinha bem composta, em termos de navios de cruzeiros. Na ponta, o bem conhecido Costa Deliziosa, a meio o Ryndam, da Holland America, que, embora presença menos habtiual por cá, já não é um desconhecido. A finalizar a tripla de navios de cruzeiro, o mais pequeno Kristina Katarina que, nunca tinha visto por cá... No seu local habitual, o Lobo Marinho, ferry que efectua as viagens inter-ilhas mas, que hoje não efectua a sua habitual viagem, devido ao estado do mar  Ryndam / Costa Deliziosa

Ontem de manhã, a caminho do trabalho, fiz uma paragem rápida na Avenida Sá Carneiro, para umas fotos ao Navio de Investigação Oceanográfica A33 " Hesperides ", da Armada Española, que tem estado no Porto do Funchal...aquela cor não deixa ninguém indiferente.... :)) Quando me preparava para ir embora, reparei que o " Lobo Marinho" , da Porto Santo Line estava a saír, acompanhado de uma das suas já habituais "amas-secas"...um rebocador dos Portos da Madeira... Inicialmente pensei que estava de saída para o Porto Santo, embora, normalmente à sexta-feira, a viagem seja efectuada apenas à tarde.... Gosto bastante dos reflexos desta.... Porteriormente li no Diário de Notícias que o navio tinha estado durante a manhã a fazer testes de mar, após terem, FINALMENTE, reparado a avaria no motor, que desde há muito obrigava os passageiros a suportarem mais 1 hora de viagem e à presença/prevenção de um reboque dos Portos da Madeira... (Neste caso, o rebo...

This week got myself thinking that the time of the year when a plane spotter most enjoys ships is when they have a mechanical problem and a plane has to bring the replacement part... Unfortunately the "Cape Mor" that was at Funchal bay with an engine problem headed to Las Palmas, to repair and with it, the Antonov An-124 with the replacement part... Anyway, back in 2005 we had another Antonov visiting us due to an engine problem in a ship: In that case, the ship was the ferry that connects Madeira and Porto Santo: "Lobo Marinho" and the Antonov was a "little" smaller than the 124...it was an An-26...in alse cases, a diferent visitor well worth catching... I used to go to the port shooting the ships and cruise ships that scaled Madeira. With the port works and new security measures, became more and more dificult to go there, near the ships and I lost much of the interest in it... Today, when heading to work, decided to make a quick stop at the old wharf for some pics of Costa Luminosa, it was all illuminated, with some great reflections in the sea and with a nice sky in the back, it was really "asking" for a few shots.... As it was 8 a.m., Lobo Marinho, the ferry that connects Madeira to Porto Santo was leaving...an extra... Had to rise the ISO up to 800 but with this camera, oposite to the old 300D, it's almost unnoticeable... Heading to Porto Santo... An almost clear Costa Luminosa.... The Catamaran in front makes daily sea trips alongside the Madeira coast.  Tomorow will be the premiere of Queen Elisabeth. Cunard's newest cruise ship... Probably won't be at the arrival (7 a.m.) but I'll try to take...
