Planes and stuff

O movimento militar por cá costuma ser pouco, pelo que ter a oportunidade de apanhar 2 aparelhos de seguida é algo raro. Do mesmo dia em que fiz os primeiros cliques à nova pintura da Condor ( AQUI ), preparava-me para regressar ao Funchal quando ouvi na frequência o Herky27 a reportar no ABUSU... Claro que fiquei para uns cliques à chegada... 16805, um dos C's "curtos"... Entretanto, e apesar de já não estar a prestar muita atenção rádio, apercebi-me do tráfego estar a ser dirigido em direção e altitude para separação de algo não previsto a chegar....Uma evacuação médica do Porto Santo, efetuada pelo C-295 16704, actualmente destacado no AM3....  2 em 1... Saída do C-295, de regresso ao Porto Santo, com um dos tripulantes a filmar a descolagem para trás, a partir da bolha....dá sempre umas perspectivas interessantes....

 A "estrela" do dia, hoje, seria o híbrido (New Gen Airways) da Enter Air, B738 SP-ESK mas, ali pelo meio, apareceu o Medic26, o C-295 16704 da Esquadra 502 da Força Aérea Portuguesa destacado no AM3 - Porto Santo com mais uma Evacuação Médica (a segunda do dia)... A descolagem de regresso ao Porto Santo, com a 23 em uso adivinhava-se interessante e realmente não desapontou, com uma saída a média altitude, mesmo ao nível de uns cliques a partir do "Ferro"... Um registo da chegada, pela 23, com prioridade sobre um Eurowings que estava no ABUSU e teve de fazer um holding e um registo do desembarque dos pacientes para uma ambulância dos Bombeiros Sapadores de Santa Cruz e outra dos Municipais de Machico, com o extra de um Oshkosh dos Bombeiros do aeroporto a dirigir-se para o Posto Avançado....

Hoje, numa paragem rápida com tempinho de chuva, tive oportunidade de apanhar 2 ou 3 saídas, incluindo o C-295, operado pela Esquadra 502, destacado no Porto Santo, de regresso ao AM3, após Evacuação Médica. A última vez que tinha fotografado o 16704, tinha sido já há cerca de 3 anos, aquando da partida de um destacamento do RG3, unidade militar da Região, para uma comissão no Iraque (ver AQUI ) Alinhando na 05... (tentei um panning à saida mas a coisa não correu bem...fica esta, para o registo...)

Decorreu ontem a partida de um destacamento do Regimento de Guarnição nº3 (o primeiro totalmente aprontado na Região, após o período da Guerra Colonial, de acordo com a Comunicação Social), para uma missão no Iraque, onde integrará a coligação internacional liderada pelos EUA na Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve, em funções de instrução das forças Iraquianas. C-295 16704, da Esquadra 502, aguardando o embarque, enquanto decorria a cerimónia de despedida aos militares, com a presença de familiares. Embarque das tropas... Partida do C-295 em direcção ao Continente, de onde seguirão para o Iraque. A missão terá uma duração de 6 meses. Boa Sorte!

Today, António Luís, well known among the Portuguese Air Enthusiasts for its Military Aviation Blog, Pássaro de Ferro ,  is celebrating the first aniversary of its personal blog, Latitude 40 . Like I already said, congratulations on that mark and I hope you can share your thoughts for many more years... That fact made me go and look for how long I've been maintaining this blog and, curiously...it's also celebrating a Year, since I started posting on a regular basis. (The actual first post was just an experience post, made more than 3 years ago and then I let this asleep for about 2 years before the real startup...I guess it really doesn't count...) These were on the "bucket" since last November.... They were taken on the day of the activation of AM3 during a couple of passes over Porto Santo, for some aerial shots of military LPPS (AM3) and...of course, the rest of the island. Indeed a fantastic oportunity given by the Air Force to be present at such an event and my baptism on the new C-295, after beeing already "baptized" on the C-130 and the C-212 (next stop...the EH-101..LOL) The island is rather small and this is pretty much everything in one shot.... Approaching the beach (with around 9Km of fantastic golden sand...) The bubbled window provided some great views and quite a diferent framing...looks like you're outside the plane... Just got THIS photo rejected at Airliners... Looks like it's not good enough for them...well...too bad, I still think it's a very nice photo and one of my best. Probably not just looking at the quality but overall, it's definitely one of my best...

Like I already said, last week I attended the activation of PoAF's AM3 at Porto Santo. Besides the great oportunity to be present at such a moment, the other great thing about that was that I made my premiere on a Portuguese Air Force C-295, the new transport plane of our Air Force. We made the Madeira - Porto Santo - Madeira flights in it. It was really a great experience and although at first we didn't get too keen of photographing through the bubbled windows due to distortion, it allowed quite some fantastic and diferent shots, like this photo. On arrival to Porto Santo, we made a couple o passes over the island to shoot some images on the military instalations, the AM3. (great views!!) This pic was taken in the approach to the second pass over the runway. It's a shot with a lot of luck in the mix that gets the main elements of the island: the big golden sand beach, the runway and the small city of "Vila Baleira" with its old pier. Later on, i'll ...

A passada quarta-feira foi um dia fantástico! Tive a oportunidade de marcar presença no evento de activação do Aeródromo de Manobra nº3, no Porto Santo (área militar do aeroporto do Porto Santo). Além da satisfação de estar presente num pequeno momento da história da aviação no nosso arquipélago, ainda por cima num específico da aviação militar, para a qual vão as minhas preferências mas, que infelizmente, é pouco comum por estes lados, ainda tive o prazer de efectuar os voos Madeira-Porto Santo-Madeira no mais recente avião da Força Aérea, o C-295. Neste momento ainda só tratei algumas fotos mas já fiz um pequeno report noticioso para o site da Madeira Spotters, acompanhado de algumas imagens, referente ao evento e às "novidades" que pudemos confirmar por lá, no que toca ao futuro do AM3 e das aeronaves da Força Aérea que por lá andarão. On the same day of the arrival of the Atlético Bilbao, the Portuguese Air Force EH-101 based at Porto Santo was quite busy during a few hours. It made a couple of Medical Evacuations on the sea. The first one was from cruise ship "Aida Vita", 240 miles from Madeira and the second one was from a petrol carrier ship 70 miles off our island. After the arrival of Privilege with the spanish team, I left the airport. Not longer after that received a call telling me that there was one of the new C-295 of the Portuguese Air Force (16704) at the airport and that the Merlin was also there refueling, before proceeding to another Medical Evacuation on the sea...crap!! The problem with military traffic, specially on a civilian airport is that you never know when they're coming... Anyway, later (around 15.30) was driving at Funchal when I noticed the EH-101 descending into the west part of the city...it had to be landing on the Hospital helipad. Went there, off course. Not many...

More and more you get to see the new Portuguese Air Force plane on active duty. This time (29.Jul.2009) was at Porto Santo and a registration I hadn't photographed yet (16704) Besides other stuff it might be doing around here, it also made the replacement of the Air Force C-212 Detachment crew. (New crew started operating right after lunch with a Medical Evacuation to Madeira as "Medic36" and right after with another flight to Madeira, as Relax...will post some pics on this soon, with quite an interesting landing of Medic36 on the return to Porto Santo). Took some pics through the net on the military apron and then decided to go to the terminal to try some pics of the take-off....bad choice. Should have gone to the runway 36 treshold. The photos wouldn't be as interesting as a take-off but at least the sun light would be on the right spot and I could have make other close-ups of interest...
