Planes and stuff

A fellow spotter that works at the airport shared a pic taken yesterday afternoon of an empty airport due to the Covid-19 crisis and so, remembered to share this one, taken on one of the last normal saturdays at Madeira, 07.Mar.2020...

A foto semana, já foi escolhida uma vez para esta rubrica mas, numa altura em estamos em plena quarentena, devido ao Covid-19 e com o movimento aeroportuário reduzido ao mínimo, fica uma homenagem às tripulações e respectivo pessoal de apoio da Força Aérea, que têm feito por estes dias diversos transportes de material médico para a Região (e Açores também). Numa altura em que as indicações são de resguardo em casa e com a maioria das coisas fechadas, devido ao Covid-19, as pequenas coisas como os passeios ao ar livre deixam já uma saudade com outro sabor... Uma situação sinceramente impensável há apenas um par de meses atrás, a verdade é que as saídas esta última semana restringiram-se ao trabalho (no meu caso) e idas ao supermercado/frutaria ou farmácia, com restrições cada vez maiores à circulação de pessoas... Esperemos por melhores dias...

A memory pic from exactly 10 years ago...18.Mar.2010...Air Berlin was still around and more...still around with A330... This must be one of the strangest pics I've taken, with the low cloud ceiling just visualy above of the top of the fuselage, on a dark day... Air Berlin's D-AERK landing on runway 23...

On the last days, Europe has been shutting down due to the Covid-19 and Madeira is also taking more hard measures regarding the movement of people, on the island and to the island. Currently (at the time of this writing) there are still no confirmed cases of Covid-19 but a lot of thinks are getting shut on an effort to keep it like that (not likely..) or at least prevent a worst case scenario... Denmark is also one of the countries that will be shutting its frontiers. Great Dane was the only new airline coming to Madeira this winter and despite it made today's flight, from Aalborg, I guess next week it won't be coming and the traffic at the airport will not be the same as in this week's pic.... Let's hope for better days...  This week's pic, taken last Saturday, with Embraer 195 OY-GDA landing on runway 05, with a lot of traffic in the back...

From last Saturday, a couple of shots on the arrival of a royal visitor... Falcon Aviation Gulfstream G450 A6-FLH...

Despite Condor beeing a regular at Madeira with quite a few flights on several week days, only last saturday got them with the new titles, applied after the bankruptcy of Thomas Cook...and it was 2 in a row... The arrival of A321 D-ATCG... despite the all white livery, I like to see it like that, with the Condor titles... former Germania A321 D-ASTE After some waiting time, due to (probably french ATC strike) Condor A320 D-AICC started its push-back Both Condor planes taxied at the same time...like I said...2 in a row D-AICC lining up on runway 05 while D-ATCG holds at Charlie holding point

It's not the first time I get this colorful bird but, it's the first time I get it coming in for a landing... Always nice to catch one of these special liveries, specially with the sun shinning... Eurowings A320 Europa Park D-ABDQ coming on final to runway 05, from Cologne....
