A dream come true...

Imagem
This is a post definitely dedicated to my spotter friend Jan Swiderski ! One of my dream traffic at Madeira was the Tu-154. There were a few (at least 3) Tu-154 here before but, I missed them all... The only other 2 times I had the oportunity to see one of these live was in Barcelona, in 2005 and now in 2009 but on both times it was quite far away to apreciate it the way it should be. When I first heard the info that one these was coming I couldn't believe it...WOW!!! Too bad it came and departed in the night....anyway still managed to take some pics...(Madeira Spotters rules!! hehe!) It was a great night (arrived at the airport around 9.30pm and left the airport after midnight) together with some spotting guys (and looks like we're grabbing another guy into plane photography spotting...he sure looks enthusiast and took some very nice pics also.) Anyway, the pics... Say what?? Ah...ok... That tail and engines are fantastic!! And what about that "bird impaler

A great night!

Yesterday night we had a great piece of traffic, one of my dream traffic around here! As far as I know we had 3 planes of these around here but I never got to see them (and even less photographing them...) It will stay at Madeira during today. Took a few more pics but didn't have a good look at them yet. Just choose this one for a little quiz...can you identify the plane? Hehe!

Smells like the 80's

Imagem
Since (Cimber) Sterling restarted flying here that I was after this one: Cimber Sterling livery. On a time that some airliners are remembering the old days with "retro" liveries this one, despite being new, sure reminds me one of those, back from the 80's....and an amazing one... If it weren't for the winglets, you might thing you were back in time... Runway 23 was in use, so decided to go the terminal balcony (although it looks like the light was nice on the side of runway 23...) The livery looked realy amazing and on a crop without winglets it looks even more "oldie"... The black nose and sunglare area, with the stripes coming out of the nose looks really great, specially on the shining new painting... 18mm shot... Too bad I couldn't stay for the take-off but, probably wouldn't get anything too special as I heard it made quite an early take-off... See you soon...

New Photo of the Week - French traffic and more

Imagem
Last Saturday went for the first regular flight by Aigle Azur. Besides that one, there were a few more traffic that could be interesting, including the one from this week's choice: Europe Airpost (French Post callsign). It's been quite a long time since I last got one of these planes. Usually they were coming in the morning and in the late afternoon...not good for me... The sun was shinning...unfortunatelly somewhere else.... The Aigle Azur, wich was making its first regular flight in Airbus and the first in Airbus A319 (the very first flight was actually a promotional flight, made a few days before in A320. Pics HERE ) Unfortunatelly it was delayed about an hour and with that weather, it didn't improved the light, for sure... Anyway, when I first got to the airport, noticed this unusual Binter...unexpected... Another spotter told me it had a technical problem while pushing-back, in the morning. This Air Berlin was also a nice catch, as lately it seems like

Puma no Operacional

O site Operacional.pt publicou um interessante artigo acerca deste "velho conhecido": O SA-330 Puma da FAP. Ver Artigo

Eyes on... Jorge Abreu Photography

I'll start sharing, everynow and then, some links of my favorites, regarding aviation and other stuff. I'll start with JA's site. He's been making more updates lately and it's definitely a "must" regarding aviation (and ship) photography at Madeira (and other locations). LINK

Madjet flying...

Imagem
A couple of days ago, after leaving work decided to go to the airport for some spotting. Didn't knew exactly what was coming but didn't care. Just wanted to see and shoot some planes. Got some TAP's and 3 Air Berlins (old colors....blargh...) and a Tuifly when it was already getting dark...but, the top catch was this little bizjet! Althought it's based at Madeira, I had no previous shots of it flying. Was sitting in the car, listening to some music and switching radio freqs. between Approach and Tower when sudendly, out of nowhere I heard on the radio "Jet2. Runway 23, cleared to land!" Jumped out of the car, thinking "Jet2?? what is that?" It crossed my mind it could be a plane from the Jet2.com airline but then I noticed it was this little bird, coming in on a great light!

Eastern Europe Night at LPMA

Imagem
Well, after all will be posting some planes tonight. After seeing a news on a local spotter blog on the eventual interest of Estonian Air to come to Madeira, decided to post just a few pics regarding the premiere of this airline at Madeira, a couple of years ago. That night was even more interesting because we also had Travel Service's special livery Telefonica O2, which is an amazing livery...great night!! The fantastic OK-TVC, from Travel Service...

Relaxing with music...

Not really in the mood for posting any pics... I'm just "surfing" the web while listening some calm and relaxing music of one of the singers I've been listening lately...

First air pics of the CS-HEU

Imagem
Yesterday, on lunch time, went to the harbour, trying to get the Heliatlantis/Helibravo airborn. The only pics I had of it were from the days after its arrival and all on the ground. As I was arriving, noticed its noise...landing or taking off?? I was lucky. It wasn't on the helipad. So, I just had to wait a little bit. Probably 15minutes. After around 15m there it was again coming back... It's definitely a lot lighter than the other helicopter. The last time I had go to that place, I got a "bath" from the sea water, sprayed by the downdraft of the rotor. This one came in a bit higher and didn't spray neither water nor even some wind... Refueling...

New Photo of the Week - Back to 2006

Imagem
Well, looks like I'm a little bit nostalgic so here's another shot that I just found: It was taken 2006 and it was lost deep down on my photo folders...;) Can you tell me how many of those airlines still exist or maintain its name and colors? ... Stuff does change...and it was only 3 years ago...

Remembering - A night bath

Imagem
A few days ago, Jorge posted a pic on Aviação Portugal Fórum that remembered me a very interesting night a couple of years ago. It was something you don't get to see many times: a night bath ceremony. The event: celebrating the last flights of a PGA capt. that was going to retire. The flights to Madeira and the return to Lisbon would be its lasts (as an airline pilot). The pics...well, not many great spotting pics but definitelly some diferent pics and night well spent. While the guys were getting ready (a well known madeirean spotter on top of the stairs of an handling company that is already gone), the plane is already on the circuit (notice the long-exposition of the lights of the plane, on the low background). The night bath while CS-TPB enters the apron (not much of the plane but a nice effect anyway...) After arrival, the captain received some souvenirs from the scale guys at LPMA and some friends. Meanwhile, took this shot because I noticed that when using the f

Shooting the Falcon

Imagem
I haven't many oportunities to shoot the F-16's, so I was a little expectating with the display of PoAF Falcons, on the last day of PAS2009. On the other ocasions I had photographed them the pics got quite crappy and this time they didn't get too much better... Anyway as from some moment I gave up shooting and just stayed there enjoying the passings and the NOISE!!! LOL! It was just too bad that they didn't brought the 50 Years Falcon ...

Transavia by Gol

Imagem
Sometimes just minor details are enough to make a plane special. In this case, this Transavia's last operator was Gol Transportes Aéreos, the Brazilian airline ( PR-GIB ) and the plane is on a summer lease to Transavia. As the Winter season is about to begin, the plane will be returning very soon to its original operator. The other point of interest is that it mantained its previous operator winglets and on some parts of the plane it's noticeable the old livery apearing under the "new clothes".... Finally, on the same day of the Aigle Azur , I got it... Landing on runway 05, from Amsterdam. On the take off run, from runway 05...
