Night MEDEVAC

Imagem
One of the things I allways wanted was to shot some night shots to the PoAF C-212 or Merlin. The lights, the props and the long-exposition photos on it should be great. These last days have been talking a lot about that (and the Spotters night that Sqn.751 is organizing didn't help to forget this....) Unfortunately, some sad events provided me the oportunity for some night shots of the PoAF C-212 with full props and lights... This night, a palm tree fell over some people at the neighbour island of Porto Santo and at least a couple of persons had to be evacuated to Madeira (another was killed...). This was made by a C-212 from Sqn.401 stationed at AM3, at Porto Santo... Expecting the injureds, a couple of Ambulances and a Quick Intervention Emergency Team (EMIR).... These were some of the effects I was looking for... Ready to leave, back to AM3, at Porto Santo

New Photo of the Week - Privilege from the Tower

Imagem
Decided for this one for this Photo of the Week . It's not every I get the oportunity to shot some photos from a control Tower. I guess that if I had the oportunity to take some shots to a taxiing plane on an helicopter hovering by its side, the result would be something like this...

Q200 on the late afternoon

Imagem
This time, didn't get many things at Porto Santo and wasn't also paying much atention to the unexpected traffic... The best thing, regarding spotting was definitely the visit to Porto Santo Tower and this diferent shot I made on top of it. There are many shots that I think that are worth sharing, but I'm not really on the mood for processing them right now...in time, I share them here... (no inside pics from the tower...not allowed) Meanwhile I still have very few pics of the Sata's Q200 and none of them were at Porto Santo so, went a couple of times just to shoot the small bird. On this day, left home with a very nice late afternoon sun, but by the time the plane arrived, clouds had already messed that up... Still, really like the first shot... On final to runway 36

Spotting at Porto Santo

Today (yesterday...Friday), Made finally some spotting since I arrived to Porto Santo and it was really some nice couple of hours, which included a visit to Porto Santo Tower, together with Paulo Brito. Thanks a lot, Pedro! The traffic wasn't much, a couple of trips from the Q200 from Sata and one flight from Privilege which wasn't far from a tail strike on the take-off.... Photos on this, soon.... Let's hope that tomorow the weather is better for the beach and all the fires at Madeira can be controlled...

NH-90 for Portugal

On vacations but checking some news on aviation... Good news for Portuguese Army Light Aviation Unit: Posted on August 10, 2010 by worldef NH Industries has started to build the first NH 90 TTH (Tactical Transport Helicopter) medium tactical transport helicopter for the Portuguese Army (Exército Português) at AgustaWestland plant in Vergiate (Italy). The Portuguese Army UALE (Unidade de Aviação Ligeira do Exército) light aviation unit will receive a total of 10 helicopters from 2012. According the new schedule, the last unit will be delivered in 2017. The programme conducted by the NAHEMA (NATO Helicopter Management Agency) agency representing France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands and Portugal first planned the delivery of the Portuguese helicopter from 2008 to 2012 but due to delays with the development of the helicopter type, the schedule has been postponed to the 2012-2014 timeframe. The last schedule covers deliveries to be held from 2012 to 2017. Source: PoADU Portuguese

Leitura para férias

Imagem

New Photo of the Week - Air Ambulance x Ground Fire Brigade

Imagem
Despite the first catch of Niki's ERJ-190 last Friday, on that day I also caught a few other stuff that I really enjoyed. Also the photographic quality of many of the other stuff, definitely beats the Niki pics (in my opinion...) So, decided that this would make a great Photo of the Week. Love the moment and the colors of both the Air Ambulance and the Fire Brigade car on the back. The water canon trainings puts the cherry on the top of the cake... I'll share some more pics on this plane later...

ERJ-190 from Niki

Imagem
Last week I noticed that the Niki flight was made by an ERJ-190 but then it was already too late to photograph it... I didn't even knew that Niki had those planes... ...and they looked pretty nice, specially in that livery! To add all that, I can't remember seeing any other ERJ-190 around here... This week, made a early wake to go and catch it... When I arrived at the cargo terminal, sun was final but on short final it was completely dark over the runway, with sun on the hills in the back... Still managed one aceptable shot on the long distance, with the sun on the plane... After that, went to the balcony for some shots off existing traffic and take-off of the Embraer, ended up getting closer than expected... Went inside to check on TV the live transmission of a stage of Rali Vinho Madeira, and when we noticed, the Embraer was already taxiing... Take off, from 05

Rally Vinho Madeira

Imagem
Last Thursday was the first day of Rally Vinho Madeira 2010. The first stage was a super-special "show" stage at Funchal downtown. I only managed to get there when it was already beggining so, the front places had already been completely taken... With only the hole of a needle to ph otograph a high-speed passing car, I only managed to take a couple of aceptable shots, like this one... (Curiously, this one crashed on the last stage of the second day of Rally....) With this....decided to focus my camera on the only thing that was above the heads in front of me...the filming helicopter... It came from the Canary islands, so it's something new for me....

Half an Alouette...

Imagem
On the same day of the Jet2 , I got the arrival of one C-130 , from Sqn.501. As the PoAF Celebrations approached, these flights were becoming more frequent. Approaching 05 Over the runway... After some time, went to the road behind apron, to see what were they bringing... It was (among other stuff) half an Alouette...the 9379, for the static display at ExpoFAP2010, that took place in High-School Francisco Franco, during PoAF Celebrations .

New Photo of the Week - Air Berlin at Night

Imagem
Just now I realised that the last post was the previous Photo of the Week .... I'll try to make a few more updates this week... This photo of the week was taken last night and selected due to the fact that Air Berlin planes at night are completely unusual at Madeira... This one was the AB2464, from Munich that was supposed to arrive at 16.00h but was delayed to 22.50h By way, talking about unusual traffic...last friday, Niki brought an Embraer 190LR.... When I noticed it, was already on the return flight, over Lisbon.... Didn't even know they had Embraers but looking at some pics, it looks very nice... Let's hope they bring it next week....
