Esquadra 501 - 40 Anos de Bisontes

"Onde Necessário, Quando Necessário"...
Tem sido assim nos últimos 40 anos, durante os quais a Esquadra 501 da Força Aérea, "Bisontes"  tem feito juz ao seu mote, a exemplo da missão concluída ontem, por exemplo, na evacuação de Portugueses afectados pelo furacão "Irma" e tantas outras ao longo destes anos.

Com mais de 77000 Horas de voo efectuadas um pouco por todo o mundo, a Esquadra 501 assinala hoje o seu 40º Aniversário.

Early wake for the Antonov

A couple of days ago, Tuifly's B738 D-ATUH (special livery Mein CEWE) suffered a bird strike on landing which damaged the nose.
The replacement part had to be brought from Hannover by an An-12, which is allways a great (and rare) sight...
Inicially schedulled to arrive in the middle of the night, ended up arriving a little bit  before sunrise which allowed me to make a quick run for some shots before heading to work.

Esquadra 751 Condecorada

O Presidente da República condecorou ontem a Esquadra 751 da Força Aérea Portuguesa com a Ordem Militar da Torre e Espada, do Valor, Lealdade e Mérito em virtude dos serviços prestados e vidas salvas ao longo de todos estes anos.
Muitos parabéns a todos os que trabalham (e trabalharam) todos os dias para o desempenho da missão!

Air Berlin...from old to white....

Some days ago, got an "old" Air Berlin that I suppose it's really the image of the airline these last days....
D-ABAG is a plane I remembered getting a few years ago still with an old livery and now it was all white with a sly sticker bearing the airberlin titles and a also a small operated by Tui sticker, all together in a Niki callsign....

Back in 2009, still with the old livery departing from runway 23 with another Air Berlin taxiing in the back to the same runway....old times...

Last month we got at Madeira, for the first time, the Ukranian airline WindRose, on a charter flight with FC Dynamo Kyev, which came to play with local CS Marítimo for the UEFA Competitions.

After one season they had planned a charter operation that was canceled this was finaly a first :)

Unique Vueling

Vueling only flies to Madeira during the summer. This year ended up getting it one single time while waiting to board into my flight...it was a lucky catch of an early take-off from runway 23, back to Barcelona...

De regresso aos movimentos locais do mês passado, a foto da semana foca-se na chegada do Presidente da República, durante a visita relâmpago efectuada pelo mesmo, na sequência da tragédia ocorrida no Monte, onde a queda de uma árvore fez diversas vítimas mortais e dezenas de feridos.

Falcon 50 17402, operado pela Esquadra 504 da Força Aérea (Linces), deslocou-se a Faro, para o embarque do Presidente da República, que lá se encontrava de férias, antes de prosseguir para a Madeira.

Sometimes, no matter how many heavies you have around, the smaller birds are the ones that caught your attention...
The Dornier 328 is a very rare bird around here. The airlines (which I had never heard before) colors are also quite nice, so it immediately called my attention...

(still, was nice to have a 747F on the back... :)  )
