Photo of the Week: Belavia

Well...better late than never...
Like someone joked about, what better choice for Photo of the Week than this Belavia landing on the beautifull late afternoon light?

Despite some of the guys saying that this one was already here, it was my first Belavia.
Came in August to Madeira, from Belarus with some team to play with local team CD Nacional, for the UEFA competitions. Hurrey to soccer! :)

Jet....2 approaches, 1 landing....

Last monday morning, it was a bit windy at Madeira airport.
Anyway, all the planes but G-GDFR from Jet2 landed with no trouble...

On final to runway 05, problems handling with the wind were obvious....

 It was already over runway 05 treshold that it made a go-around...

 ....beeing directed to FUSUL, by ATC.
They managed to land on second atempt.

Jet2 tailstrike: getting stuff ready for the repair

Jet2 B738 that suffered the tail strike at Madeira, last Feb., 17th (see AVHerald info HERE) was moved last Friday to the position where it will be repaired and the support tents for the repairing team started to be mounted around the tail of the plane.

Nova foto da semana: Montes de tráfego....

Na passada segunda-feira dei um salto ao aeroporto com um spotter do Porto Santo que cá estava de visita...
O tempo não estava grande coisa e acabei por utilizar quase apenas a 17-50 para uma fotos menos focadas num avião específico...

Uma das coisas que gosto de tentar fazer com esta lente é tentar "enfiar" numa foto o maior número de aviões possível...nesse aspecto esta está bastante composta e dá ao aeroporto um ar realmente movimentado... :)

Uma outra com uns quantos "ao molhe"...

Looks like the Jet2 that suffered the tail strike last Feb. 17th 2014 at Madeira (G-GDFC) will still be around for a few days...
(waiting for Boeing engineers and hardware to repair it...)

Yesterday morning noticed they had taped it in some areas...

Week Photo: Grounded by Tailstrike

Last Monday, Jet2's B738 G-GDFC performing a flight from Leeds made a tailstrike while landing...
It suffered some damage on the fuselage (fortunately not any kind of personal damage...) and for now it waiting for further evaluation...

It's quite a rare sight to see a Jet2 in night-stop, at Madeira

It's even more rare to see it with covered engines...

 The couple of usual night-stopers for this week....Sata's A320 CS-TKP is based at Madeira (so it's a usual nightstoper not just for the week)...and the forced one, from Jet2...let's see if this week there are some visible developments...

Por hoje fica apenas uma foto do B757 da Jet2, com a pintura Jet2 Holidays, o G-LSAD, fotografado no inicio do mês.

A manhã de spotting não estava a correr muito bem, com o tempo a ficar cada vez mais escuro e as novas pinturas Thomson a "faltarem ao encontro".

Com o desvio do "companheiro de equipa" deste para o Porto, por emergência médica, um 737 igualmente com a pintura Jet2 Holidays, decidi ir-me embora logo após este, porque isto dos hobies são para ser feitos com vontade...

Jet2 is now a regular visitor around here but still, I'm never tired of seeing the ones with the Jet2 Holidays livery.
It looks really nice, colorful and with a great feeling of...Holidays :)

Another nice catch from last monday was the Jet2.

I hadn't photographed them in a long time and it looked like it would be a two in one, with this G-CELV and G-GDFJ with the Jet2 Holidays livery, from Manchester...
Unfortunatelly, something happen to the special one and it returned to Manchester (came later to Madeira again but, it was already too late for me...)


Anyway, this time, the cherry was on the bottom (of the plane) with this lucky beacon shot while on final to runway 05....

Looked like the return flight was pretty full with everyone inline for boarding ....

Wait! Everyone boarding? Well, not exactly...some guy disapeared for quite some time...
While on airport speakers its name was beeing called repeatedly, the crew was waiting to get the plane up.....

Including the captain, looking quite relaxed and slightly interested in what I was doing....

Anyway...finally the guy appeared for boarding and they could move on....

Allways enjoyed this kind of close-up pics...
It's the only time you get to see the engines like that and if you had that to the noise, breaking and everything else that happens on the landing, it's the freazing of a great moment!
(Also, looking from here, the engine doesn't look that far from the ground...)

Nova foto da semana: Longas diurnas

Ontem de manhã, fui até ao aeroporto decido a fazer umas experiências que já tinha em mente há algum tempo.

Como o movimento era muito mas, em princípio nada de muito fantástico ou diferente, seria o ideal para experiências que tanto podiam acertar, como falhar redondamente e além disso, apanharia o Air Finland, ao final da manhã, já que ainda não o tinha fotografado esta época (recomeçou a vir na semana passada).

Ao final da manhã, a placa já estava bastante composta, com a grande surpresa em destaque: G-GDFD, o 738 da Jet2 com a pintura especial Jet2 Holidays

Foi precisamente com este avião que me acertou melhor as experiências que andei fazendo, com a utilização de filtros ND para conseguir fotos diurnas de longa exposição.

É nestas alturas que sabemos que fizemos bem em ficar com a máquina antiga como backup já que, com a 1000D montada no tripé e com os filtros, restava sempre a velhinha 300D para apanhar outras coisas interessantes que iam chegando.
Foi a primeira vez, neste ano que apanhei o Cimber Sterling (OY-MRG), o primeiro dos 2 voos efectuados por esta companhia à segunda-feira, para a Madeira.
(No entanto, tenho de ver melhor as definições da 300D...está a dar às fotos uma tonalidade verde estranha...foi um trabalhão de ajuste nas cores para tentar corrigir isso....)

O Easyjet G-EZGO também não ficou mau, embora as cores estejam algo estranhas...
Ainda tentei outros efeitos de arrastamento à entrada e saída do stand mas, suponho que durante o dia será mesmo complicado já que o tempo de exposição mesmo nos 10 ou 16s continuava a ser algo curto para isso...

outra vista de uma placa bastante composta e onde os 752 eram reis, apenas com o "pequeno" OY-MRG da Cimber a destoar da armada Boeing "mais grande"...

Entretanto, acabei mesmo por não conseguir nenhuma foto de jeito da chegada do Air Finland já que aterrou por trás de uma placa completamente cheia de aviões e suas APU's a largar calor....fica para a próxima...
