Memories: Britannia Airways

Imagem
A few days ago, Jorge shared on it's blog some memory entry regarding a US military traffic . It was a really nice entry regarding a traffic I never had seen around here, but amazingly, the thing that I most enjoyed on the all entry was a little detail on one of the pics...a Britannia Airways tail, on the apron... Things and opinions really do change... Back then I used to hate that livery, though it was old looking and those lines were awfull to photograph, specially for a guy that back then was just starting to photograph planes... Some of the planes were starting to get the Tui livery which I thought (at the time) it was a great livery... (That was before they started painting every plane, from Britannia, Thomson, Hapag-Lloyd, Jetairfly, etc....) These days I'm completely full of Tui liveries (which I usually call Boring Blue...the Tuifly's look a little better...but really just a little....) and think that the Britannia livery after all was really nice and it

Austrian Star Alliance

Imagem
Finally managed to get this one! Has been coming to Madeira for a while but today was the first one I managed to be at the airport for it. Traffic at Madeira on Wednesdays is usually quite boring and for the last weeks the Austrian was the only interesting traffic of the day (for me..) Today, Hamburg International and Primera came back to Madeira but they managed to organize flighs so we have the Hamburg in the begining of the morning, the Primera at lunch and Austrian at the middle of the afternoon...three trips to the airport? No way... (By the way, today's registrations for those planes were D-AHIM and OY-PSA) Anyway, the Austrian ... I find the Star Alliance (and Austrian) to fit very nicely to the B738...

Good looking fridge

Imagem
Usually I'm not really keen on flying fridges but I must admit that Travel Service 's OK-TVP looks really nice with the all white / Travel Service stickers livery. After bringing the Prague Airport livery last week , yesterday they brought this one to another French flight (as I call the flights that were made by Strategic). Arriving from Mulhouse, on final to runway 05.... After rotation, lining up on runway 05. Destination: Mulhouse/Paris-Charles de Gaulle...

New Photo of the Week - Tuifly specials

Imagem
Tomorow (...actually today, it's past mid-night...) it's Tuifly day. They're currently making 4 weekly flights to Madeira, all of them on Tuesday, which means 3 diferent planes (the first in the morning returns on the last flight of the day). Lately, Tuesdays mean "hunt" day as I'm still missing the Golden Haribo. It's been here at least a couple of times but I never managed to get it. Last weeks we've only been getting "eggs"...regular Tuifly yellow livery... Anyway, found this one among the archives last weekend and remembered that I hadn't seen this one around here also. Despite not beeing a very colorful livery (specially comparing to the Haribos) it would be still very nice to see them around here again.

Rejections @ Airliners.net

Imagem
Yesterday got a few more shots rejected at Airliners.net. They're getting more and more picky everyday and if the SBA was nothing really special, regarding quality, in my opinion, the Luxair's and the Sharan's were really nice ones... Lately I've been sending less and less pics to Airliners, and I guess it's time to stop sending them at all, they sure won't miss my pics and I won't wast my time on them... Have a few more on queue, if they're acepted, it's ok, if they're rejected, who cares.... Will keep uploading to Jetphotos and obviously the main point of upload is now this blog. Hope you enjoy the pics and keep following the blog.

Correction on the 767 from Euroatlantic

After all, oposite to what I said last post , that wasn't the first time an Euroatlantic B767 landed at Madeira. It was probably the first time that CS-TFT was here but Euroatlantic made a few flights to Brasil with the B767 You can check the pics (including one of mine....lol, have to check those things better, next time...) HERE Thanks to Zé Luís and Jorge Abreu for heads-up on that.

Tuifly by Euroatlantic

Imagem
These photos were one of those that I didn't even remember that I had taken and quite precious they are. As far a I know, it was the first time an Euroatlantic B767 was around here. Also, B767 other than SBA's aren't that usual around here... This flight happened due to the Icelandic Vulcano ashes. Traffic was grounded for a few days around here and in other parts of Europe, so Tuifly brought a bigger plane to take all the grounded passengers at our island. I remember seeing this plane going to the Canary islands on behalf of Tuifly and thinking that it would be great if they made the same with Madeira passengers.... As far as I can remember they made 2 flights on that day. I only caught the morning one... The nice early morning sun was quite far away... Anyway, on this case there's probably a Murphy Law, stating that the sun allways comes out right after the plane lands...  After rotation, taxiing to runway 05

Strategic

Imagem
This was another airline that didn't resist... They were making a few weekly flights to Madeira since some time ago but the flights were made on a schedulle not very compatible wih my own schedulles (or moods....) So I only got it once, on a crappy dark and rainy day...anyway, the record is here...

Breitling Team over Dubai

This vídeo was shared at Facebook and I found it to be really great... Check Breitling Team page HERE

Humidity

Imagem
Today the air was full of humidity with a crappy hot and wet (specially during the rain...lol) air... I guess that these were the perfect conditions to get some pics with condensation effects like these...

SAS A319

Imagem
It's been quite a while since I last caught these colors... Now, SAS only makes 1 weekly flight to Madeira and only with the A319 , wich means that we only get the OY-KBP or the OY-KBO retro. This year, almost didn't get SAS and the very few times I got it, they brought the "retro" so, like I said...it's been a long time since I last saw these colors... This one landed on runway 05. The last pic I had from this plane on Jetphotos was in runway 23. Check it HERE

Memories: Austrian's 777 at Madeira

Imagem
A few days ago was browsing some older pics and took some time seeing the ones from the first flight to Madeira of Austrian's Boeing 777...what a day... Chose this one for the memory.... (by the way, will try to make one memory post for week, although my photos aren't that old, much has changed and you can always find something that brings some nice memories....)

A couple of Islanders

Imagem
This plane has been coming here for a while, sometimes to make some aerial photography on the island, some times on ferry flights to/from the Azores. A big thumbs up for the pilots ;) Knowing the pilots, I had the extra motivation to shoot some pics for them... This time he was doing a ferry flight from Cascais (LPCS) to Lajes (LPLA), via Madeira (LPMA) and Santa Maria (LPAZ). The day before got some crappy pics of their arrival from Cascais so, on this day went on time to the airport to get their departure to Santa Maria. After all, they used the good weather for a local flight, before departing to Santa Maria, to shoot some aerial pics that were still missing on the island, due to clouds on previous flights. Taking off, for the aerial shooting flight.... Returning for refueling and preparing the fligth to the Azores... Preparing the flight to the Azores.... Departing to the first leg of the trip: Madeira-Santa Maria See you soon...

New Photo of the Week - Spanish Mil.

Imagem
This week arrived to Porto Santo a military Fokker 27. It's quite a nice and diferent plane... Yesterday, I was told it was making some touch&go's at Madeira's runway 23...unfortunately I was at Funchal and wasn't worth going there...it would be long gone before I arrived.... Anyway, it was more than time for a new Photo of the Week, so decided for a Spanish military theme this week. A pic I hadn't realsed yet, regarding the Patrulla Águila display on Portugal Air Show 2009 (a very nice display, by the way....) You can check some more pics of that display HERE

Travel Service Special Livery

Imagem
Yesterday, we had 3 Travel Service flights. One of them was a regular flight  from Warsaw, usually made by a Smartwings B735 and couple of others to replace Strategic Airlines on french flights. There was a good probability that at least one of them would be made by a special livery aircraft... Was on external duty so couldn't be following them but Jorge confirmed me that the first couple, arriving at lunch hour was the usual Smartwings and another with regular livery (OK-TVN) And then Alex called with great news, the afternoon flight was being made by OK-TVN, with Prague airport special livery. I was after that one for a long time! Thanks Alex! After work, headed to the airport under rain (lots of water falling...) and thinking if it was worth the trip, with that weather.... Fortunately in Santa Cruz weather was dark but dry...runway 23 was in use... After rotation, taxiing back to runway 23, to take off.... Ready to take off with a smooth but nice effect on the rig

The Phantom

Imagem
Just saw a vídeo of a display made by a German Air Force F-4 that was pretty nice! Check it HERE The Phantom was allways a plane that filled my imagination, specially due to its roll in Vietname. It was one big and beautifull plane and those twin engines roaring in the air just made it more beautifull. Unfortunatelly never had the oportunity to be near one of them. I still would like to see one of them flying live but for now, it was really nice to be near a couple of them last easter vacations (actually it was in easter day....beats going to church, for sure...)

F.C.Porto colors

Imagem
Today, the F.C.Porto soccer team arrived at Madeira, to play with local team, C.D.Nacional tomorow. What's the interest in that for a guy that doesn't have any interest in soccer? The plane that brought the team....obviously...LOL! Didn't managed to get there at the time of arrival, so made a quick stop a couple of hours later just to shoot some pics of it. It's one I never photographed and a rare type of bird around here... Curiously, it holds the same colors of the team it brought...white and blue...

Luxair on 23

Imagem
These were also taken on one of those last days of vacations. Afternoon sun and runway 23 landings allways provide some great background for photos, specially with some nice livery like the Luxair one. Looks like this was the first time this Year I got Luxair...have to check on that...
