Cimber Sterling Premiere

Imagem
One of favorite planes/liveries ever was Sterling's Super Carevelle that I used to see from home on final to runway 06 of old LPFU, when I was a kid. Later, when I started taking some pics with my first digital camera, still caught some pics of Sterling... After some years it restarted coming to Madeira in 2007 but due to my work schedulles I only caught it once...(and with quite some crappy pics...) In Winter season 2008, it started coming with new livery...couldn't get it and though: "I'll get it next week...." Well, next week Sterling had gone bankrupt and I hadn't photographed it....argh!!! That was one of my spotting frustrations...and I though I'd never see those colors around here anymore... Fortunately Cimber Air took the chance and made a business, buying some parts of Sterling and creating Cimber Sterling. Today, was the premiere from this airline at Madeira, in a flight from Copenhagen. Was expecting to see a plane with Cimber's retro liver

New Photo of the Week - The rest of the Savior

Imagem
It was about time for a new Photo of the Week, after this longer break. Back to Porto Santo, this Weeks photo is dedicated to the guys of Sqr.751 from Portuguese Air Force. The Merlin rests, waiting for refueling, after returning from an operational mission, where they rescued a guy that went to some rocks on the sea shore and then got stuck with rise of the tide... Due to the waves, rocks and flow, the Navy decided to call the Merlin. The Sdr. motto "so others may live..."

US Airways

Imagem
Just today I was talking with a guy about the US Airways that went into the Hudson, yearlier this year and so, decided to post this one, it was the first and only time I photographed a US Airways plane...

First time Embraer

Imagem
Time to start posting again... These day's of vacations were really great. Regarding aviation...spotted lots of different traffic but with a point and shoot didn't photographed many (and also just when waiting at the airports) nor the pics are of great quality, anyway they're pretty good, just for the record. Also, it was the first time I flew the Embraer (ERJ-145)... Nice little jet on a very steady flight with only a few shakes on short final... A little noisy on the back were I was (but not too noisy) and no LCD's...

New Photo of the Week - RZO by Euroatlantic

Imagem
Definetely a rare visitor around here... As far as I know, it's the second time we receive a portuguese registration B757 around here. The first one was back in 2006, with Euroatlantic's CS-TLX. You can see a couple of pics Here . This one was doing flight RZO467/466 from Lisbon. This flight lately has brought some real rare stuff around here. This last week we also had around here at least a couple of A310 from White. This kind of traffic will probably be mantained for the next month or two, depending on the return of CS-TKO to duty. See you after next week as probably during next week I won't be updating...

CS-TKO last shots...

Imagem
Well...looks like these are the last shots I'll take to "Diáspora" for a while.... (hope not too long...) Anyway, these were taken by pure luck as I was near runway 36 threshold and the Madeira's Aeroclub Piper was doing some touch&go's I decided to go there for a couple of shots of the Piper. When I got there, heard the ATC sending the Piper into hold as there was an A320 coming for land. Had no idea what it was... A few moments later Sata joined the Tower frequency for landing...hum, a Sata? It should be nice to get the CS-TKO.... ...and... yes! It was Sata's new A320:

This day (24.Jul.2009), I was nearby the airport when I heard on the radio that there was a "Hercky" coming to final of 36. Went to the airport's balcony and was sending an sms to Paulo Brito when noticed it had already land...just had the time to drop the cell phone and grab the camera, before shooting a few shots... It went to the military apron but as I was already runnning late with the bread for family breakfast at home, didn't even go there.

Crap...

Just now entered the blogger and it's saying I'm not following any blog.... WTF??? I'm following lots of blogs... I guess I'll wait until tomorrow to see if the situation gets back to normal.... Crap!!!

New Photo of the Week - P-3P at Porto Santo

Imagem
Before going to Porto Santo, I was convinced that the Top traffic I'd get there would be the Spanish Air Force A310, for the visit of the Kings of Spain. Well, I was wrong... It was really nice to get the A310 but, this unexpected PoAF P-3P sure was the Top traffic for me!! I only got to photograph this plane once (also here at Porto Santo) and it was parked. Had seen it a few times making some low level flights at Funchal bay but never had the oportunity to photograph it flying until this day...

Medic36 windy landing

Imagem
During all year one of the most important missions of the PoAF at Porto Santo is the evacuation of more serious medical situations to Madeira. In Summer this is even more important and commom, due to the increase of the Porto Santo population with the summers tourists. Altought July isn't the most crowded month at Porto Santo (it's August) the PoAF Detachment C-212 still made quite a few Medical Evacutations. I had an extra motivation for getting some pics of the Aviocar as B.V. was the pilot and I wanted to send him some pics... Unfortunately these were the most interesting pics I got from the Aviocar and were taken precisely on the day he left for the mainland...so this flight was already made by the crew that arrived that morning... Anyway, I heard that the Medic36 had left to Madeira, so went expecting it on arrival (I even though that the evacuation was made by the C-295 that arrived that morning ...) Well, no C-295 but the Aviocar sure made an interesting landing with so

A Swiss passing by

This day (26.Jul.2009) I was at Calheta (Porto Santo) when I noticed that there was something diferent coming in for landing. It was something rather small but diferent... Just before going to lunch made a quick stop at the airport. It was a Swiss Cessna that made a refuel stop, before proceeding to Ponta Delgada (Azores). A very nice tail... A couple of days later, Luís Correia caught it at Faial. You can see some pics HERE Going for the crossing of the Atlantic??

C-295 at Porto Santo

Imagem
More and more you get to see the new Portuguese Air Force plane on active duty. This time (29.Jul.2009) was at Porto Santo and a registration I hadn't photographed yet (16704) Besides other stuff it might be doing around here, it also made the replacement of the Air Force C-212 Detachment crew. (New crew started operating right after lunch with a Medical Evacuation to Madeira as "Medic36" and right after with another flight to Madeira, as Relax...will post some pics on this soon, with quite an interesting landing of Medic36 on the return to Porto Santo). Took some pics through the net on the military apron and then decided to go to the terminal to try some pics of the take-off....bad choice. Should have gone to the runway 36 treshold. The photos wouldn't be as interesting as a take-off but at least the sun light would be on the right spot and I could have make other close-ups of interest... So here's the pics on the MilApron...and none from the take-off heading to

White at Night - Porto Santo

Imagem
One of the planes I was looking forward to get at Porto Santo was White's A320. This was a premiere for me as it never had come to Madeira (it started coming to Madeira while I was at Porto Santo) Check the first pic of it at Madeira in Planepictures, by Jorge Abreu, HERE . The conditions were hard for night shots, as the wind was blowing quite strong. Had to keep the tripod low and the exposition time the less possible. Still, the shots turned out not very sharp... The first one was taken inside the airport top bar after Jorge Abreu sugesting me to try the bar for the pics: Not good if you want the plane as the main subject but still you can make quite some nice and diferent shots and definitly a nice place to watch the planes (didn't try the coffee but heard that it's quite crappy...) Ready to leave to Lisbon...

Privilege over my head

Imagem
The day I arrived at Porto Santo, I was on the beach, on the afternoon in my favorite place (which is just under the path to final of runway 36) when I noticed Privilege's Boeing 757 passing right over my head to the south where it would turn about 180º into final to runway 36. Just had the time to run to the parking to get the camera in the car, and there it was, coming right into me, on final to runway 36...

ERJ-135 at Porto Santo

Imagem
Haven't caught many Embraers, so couldn't miss the oportunity to get this one, even if only on the ground. It arrived around 12h and departed about an hour later to Moscow-Vnukovo (UUWW) with the final flight level of FL390 (pretty hight).... While I was taking the photos throught the gate K9, noticed the first signs of increased security for the the visit of the Kings of Spain and Portuguese President, as a policeman came to me and asked me if the "thing" I was holding was a photographic camera... (yeah...did he think it was a bazooka??). Police at Porto Santo never cared of whatever I was doing before...just on those days... You could also notice they were doing some armed patrols around the airport area, which I never seen before... Anyway, the pics... The police talking to me called the attention of the pilot... Don't know if it was someone "important" inside and couldn't care less...just want to photograph the plane, thanks...

New Photo of the Week - Astreus / Palmair

Imagem
It's more than time to get a new Photo of the Week ... last one had a loooong week...lol This one's not particularly beautifull or with a great quality but it's the first time I got (as far as I can remember) a B735. Also marks the return of Astreus to Madeira and also the Palmair titles which I tought it would be gone, with the shut of European... It was its first time at Madeira, on Aug.3rd 2009....
